The second annual get-together of Fran Leibowitz fans (excluding director Martin Scorcese) was free and joyous in downtown Manhattan
Danny Bellini, 35, who came with his fiancé, Bruxhilda Lumajs, 33, said there were similarities between New York Comic Con and FranCon: how strangers established a sense of camaraderie by way of their outfits.
As with the huge Comic Con at the Javits Convention Center, the Francon-goers, at a downtown bar, established an immediate sense of camaraderie — they were all wearing costumes.

And this costume, the Fran Leibowitz look, consisted of the elements every real New Yorker finds in the closet: blue jeans (hems rolled is de rigeur), a white Brooks Brother style shirt (button-down optional), a tree-button blazer (see our story about the newest blazers coming out of fashion week) and CIGARETTES (candy, in this case).
Like Comic Con fans, out of town FranCon followers might also book an Empire Helicopter tour of Manhattan (starting at $369) — or a “RiseNY simulated flight over all 5 boroughs, with a film by Ric Burns, for a more affordable $37.
We don’t know, however, if Fran herself would approve of the simulated flight.
